Snow River Designs Limited-edition jewelry

Artist Statement

I want my jewelry to be wearable and affordable, but most of all, I want it to have surprises.

My jewelry often appears asymmetrical.  I may use a different color or shape bead to give the viewer a surprise.  Sometimes I create earrings that one is the reverse of the other.  What appears to be a center bead of a necklace may be off center.

Another type of surprise occurs in a symmetrical arrangement.  I interrupt a repeated pattern with a reversal or some other brief intervention of asymmetry.  Then the symmetrical pattern echoes and returns.

A surprise may also occur in choice of materials.  I combine copper with silver, brass with silver, gold with silver or copper.  I combine faceted stones or carved crystals with boulder-shaped stones.  I sometimes combine pearls with Thai silver butterflies and fish.  Lampwork beads may be combined with antique Vaseline beads or 19th Century Venetian millefiori beads.

Creating jewelry with surprises makes the creation infinitely more intriguing to me.
